2011 02 24 079.JPG - Bonaire is home to a large population of wild donkeys. They were introduced by the early settlers of Bonaire, and they released onto the island to fend for themselves when they were no longer needed. The problem is that the island can't sustain their numbers, they cause environmental damage, and cause nuisance to farmers and on the roads. A lady has set up a volunteer donkey sanctuary on Bonaire to help, and she has a program of rescuing donkeys and also sterilising males to help keep their numbers in control.
